Get to know your conference town. We will introduce you to Tampere's most interesting attractions. You will learn about the city - both its history and its present-day. You will see a lively industrial town with its beautiful lakes, parks, woods, and market places. Important sights include Central Square and the Cathedral, the picturesque Pispala village, and the impressive Pyynikki Ridge and Park.

A relaxing cruise on Lake Pyhäjärvi - experience the beautiful scenery and waterside surroundings of Tampere. A delicious lunch will be served on board. Departure and arrival from Laukontori Quay in the city centre. Commentary on tape in English, no tour guide along on this cruise. The Sightseeing tour bus will take you to the quay in time for the cruise, if you are attending the sightseeing tour, too.

Countryside and Art Tour

This coach tour takes you to the beautiful countryside surrounding Tampere. The first stop is at Visavuori, the 19th century home and studio of the well-known Finnish sculptor Emil Wikström. After leaving this scenic delight we continue to Iittala, the most famous Finnish glass centre. You'll become familiar with the fascinating history of glass in the glass museum. You can see glass blowing in the factory, and the little shops with their chocolate, honey and textile goods are also worth visiting.

A delicious home-cooked lunch will be served on a farm restaurant. Have a walk in the farm yard and take a deep breath of fresh air. Just relax and indulge yourself! On the way back we meet a gobelin and stained glass artist in her private studio.

Rauma, Finland's third oldest town, founded in 1441, is a good five centuries old. It is often called "the Pearl of Finland's west coast". The Old Rauma district shows you Finland's wooden architecture in its best preserved condition. Old Rauma was the first site in Finland to be placed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. People still live, work and trade, and shop in Old Rauma. You can also visit the Franciscan monastery church, various museums and charming little curiosity shops. The tradition of lace making in
Rauma dates back to the 1700's. Elegant lace is still today the best known article of Rauma. A delicious lunch at a wooden villa from the 18th century and coffees with Finnish pastries will complete your wonderful day on the West Coast Finland.

St.Petersburg - One of the World's Truly Pearls
2-6 July (Tuesday -Saturday)

St. Petersburg has been rightly called one of the most beautiful cities in the world - a unique mix of European and Russian elements, of culture, of luxury and poverty. This old capital of the Russian empire is an unusually attractive pearl for all art lovers, ballet, music and theatre enthusiasts as well as admirers of historic sights. It is a great opportunity to visit the city just before the tourist flow to the 300th Anniversary in 2003.

During our stay in St. Petersburg we will visit St. Isaac's Cathedral and the Hermitage, possibility to get tickets to a ballet or Folklore Show. On the way back we will stop for lunch at the Carelian town of Vyborg on the Gulf of Finland, arriving in Helsinki for one night, before flying back home. The price includes coach travel Tampere - St. Petersburg - Helsinki on a Finnish bus, half board, three nights in St. Petersburg, one night in Helsinki, sightseeing tour and visits to the museums mentioned, services of a Finnish tour guide and English speaking local guide in St. Petersburg.
