As a distinctive liberal arts institution in Hong Kong,
Lingnan University is committed to the provision of
quality education distinguished by the best liberal
arts traditions. Lingnan University is the first
university in Hong Kong to establish Cultural
Studies as an academic department.
The
Department of Cultural Studies has introduced
the first undergraduate programme in Cultural
Studies as well as the first Master of Cultural
Studies programme in Hong Kong. Interdisciplinary in
nature and in form, these programmes represent an
important step by the University toward developing
itself as an internationally recognized liberal arts
institution with Hong Kong characteristics. The
Department of Cultural Studies is celebrating its 10th
anniversary in 2010.
Kwan Fong
Cultural Research and Development Programme (KFCRD)
is a research apparatus associated with the
Department of Cultural Studies. Launched in 2004
with seed money from the Kwan Fong Charity
Foundation, KFCRD is a unique research programme
with a mission to link cutting edge cultural
research networks to local development projects
involving community groups, cultural policy-makers,
teachers and students in Hong Kong. In line with
Lingnan Universityˇ¦s emphasis on liberal education
and community services, KFCRD explores, identifies
and puts to work effective ways of investing locally
in heritage, creativity and cultural education to
meet the needs of the Hong Kong community in the 21st
century.
